2001 Mercury Cougar Problems
The battery light may illuminate on the instrument panel because the alternator wire harness connector is damaged. A new connector kit is available and should be installed to correct this concern.
The Check Engine Light can illuminate with codes due to the lack of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) flow caused by the intake manifold passage plugging up with carbon and oil. The EGR valve has to be removed and the passage cleaned thoroughly. Partial restriction of this passage can cause Smog test failures for the NOx emissions without causing a drivability symptom.
2001 Mercury Cougar Questions
when its cold out and i let it warm up,my car smells like gas and i have seen small puddles of gas under the engine ,but not all the time. when its warm out i don't have this problem.
it sounds like it is coming from the intake but im not to sure and the sound is very frequent especially when im driving or in idle
I've replaced the solenoid with no change. Then replaced the egr valve too. Could there be an electrical problem in the wire. Engine light comes back on after resetting it. Wife took the car to Advance Auto to see what code would show. Code P0401, exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient.
