1990 Mazda 929 Repair and Maintenance

A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your 1990 Mazda 929

1990 Mazda 929 Problems

A knocking sound heard from the front or rear suspension while driving over rough roads may be caused by the sway bar linkages. The linkages should be inspected for tightness and condition; there are redesigned linkages if replacement is necessary.

Original Equipment or high quality aftermarket ignition parts are recommended on this model. A lower quality distributor cap and rotor may be problematic when installed.

If a rumbling noise is heard from the engine, along with a possible loss in power, it may be caused by a collapsed hydraulic timing belt tensioner creating excessive cam backlash. Our technicians recommend replacing the timing belt and water pump at the same time, if they have not been recently replaced.
