2000 Lexus LX470 Problems

Loud Vacuum Cleaner Noise on Cold Start

Drivers may hear a loud noise, much like a vacuum cleaner, coming from their engine on cold starts. This affects the 1998-2005 Lexus LX470.

The noise is from the secondary air pump, which sends hot air to the catalytic converter when the engine is cold. This allows the catalytic converter to clean exhaust better, and lower emissions while the engine is warming up.

Pump failure may result in:

Fixing the issue involves removal of the intake manifold, and replacement of the secondary air pump.

Check Engine Light Due to Failed Oxygen Sensor

The Check Engine Light may illuminate because a component of the oxygen sensor stops working. As a result the engine computer is unable to determine the proper ratio of air to fuel for the engine. Replacing the failed oxygen sensor should correct this concern.

Check Engine Light Due to EVAP System Failure

Occasionally, the Check Engine Light is illuminated due to failures in the evaporative emission (EVAP) system. Our technicians tell us that proper diagnoses is generally required to confirm the exact fault causing the warning light to come on.

Had the car for eight years. only problem ever had was left lights on and battery jump start - friend messed up and crossed the cables. had to replace electrical in engine. other than that, just some missing interior pieces with normal wear and tear.
