1998 Lexus LS400 Repair and Maintenance Costs

A guide to repairs, service, and maintenance costs for your 1998 Lexus LS400

1998 Lexus LS400 Problems

Noise From Front Suspension

Higher mileage cars can develop creaking and groaning noises in the front suspension, particularly when coming to a quick stop. Inspection and replacement of any worn parts should correct this concern.

Automatic Transmission Shutter Code P0770

Owners have reported experiencing rough deceleration, inability to engage overdrive, and a check engine light with diagnostic trouble code P0770. Problems with the torque converter or deferred transmission maintenance can trigger this. Professional transmission diagnosis is recommended to address this issue to prevent unnecessary part replacement and expenditure.

Rear Window Sunshade Fails and Makes Grinding Noise

The motor for the rear window sunshade in the Lexus LS400 is known to fail. When this occurs, the sunshade will not extend over the window, and a grinding noise is heard until the motor fails as well.

Replacement of the sunshade assembly is necessary to correct this failure, however, removing the fuse for the sunshade will stop the motor from making the irritating grinding noise.

This is the best Lexus ever. When we bought it, it had 198,000 miles on it. It now has 240,000. We have had no major issues. We replaced the radiator, power steering hoses, and the pump. Usual maintenance on brakes. It is a comfortable car that has great acceleration and has been an extreme joy to drive. We're interested in looking for a newer model Lexus at this point, but I kind of hat...
