2005 Kia Sorento Problems

Upgraded Control Module Will Stop Erroneous Airbag Light

The airbag warning light may illuminate erroneously.  This can be caused by an internal defect in the control module. Replacement of the airbag control module with a revised part may be necessary to correct this concern.

Software Update Available to Correct Transmission Issues

Reprogramming the transmission control module with the latest Kia transmission software may fix abnormalities in the automatic transmission and erroneous transmission-related Check Engine Light illumination. Software updates are commonly most effective on newer vehicles. Higher mileage vehicles may exhibit a similar symptom caused by a component failure. However, whenever major transmission repairs are performed the transmission software should be checked and updated as necessary.

Revised Crankshaft Pulley Bolt

In order to correct a problem that results in difficulty starting, engine vibration, or a rattling sound from the engine compartment, Kia released an updated crankshaft pulley bolt.

2005 Kia Sorento Reviews

19.9 mpg until Bush wanted Corn Whiskey in the gas. Then it was 18 from then on. The gold paint decided to FADE on every piece of plastic around the car all at once. Our transmission failed repeatedly from a faulty ECM that was shorting a wire...
Reading some of the reviews, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I have a 2005 Sorento EX, had it since new, now 160,000 miles. Never (never) had it in the shop...EVEN FOR WARRANTY WORK. I think that's the secret, keeping it out of the shop for somebody's ill trained mechanics to screw up. I still have the same spark plugs but have changed the hoses & one serpentine belt (at a local repair shop)...
I have a water leak near the back of motor. Steady Drip.
