2012 Jeep Patriot ProblemsPremature CVT Transmission Failure
There have been numerous complaints of early transmission failure, even with with normal servicing. Issues start with a whining noise, overheat warnings, and an inability to accelerate. The most common solution is replacement of the transmission. Late 2014 model year Patriots changed to a non-CVT transmission.
Water leaks may be noted from the front and/or rear roof area. Our technicians recommend to inspect the roof ditch and sunroof - Check all grommets and plugs, reseal roof seams, and replace the sunroof drain tubes if necessary.
A no crank or no start condition may develop due to electronic lockup of the wireless control module (WCM), also referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM). When this module fails the remote keyless entry system will also not operate. The WCM is commonly replaced to correct this concern.

The occupant restraint control (OCR) module may short circuit and prevent the vehicle's restraint system from operating in an accident. Dealers will repair the vehicle (a procedure for this repair is still under development at the time of this writing) free of charge to resolve the concern.
The airbag system contains various components which deploy to help protect vehicle occupants if a crash occurs. These vehicles are being recalled because the seatbelt pre-tensioners and/or side airbags may be slow to deploy when needed. Delayed deployment will increase the risk of personal injury. Dealers will update the airbag system software to correct this concern.
On these vehicles, the fuel tank is divided into two sections. A system using a transfer tube is used to move fuel from the secondary side to the primary side where the fuel pump is located. This transfer tube may have been improperly manufactured causing the transfer of fuel to be interrupted. If this condition causes the primary side of the fuel tank to run dry the engine will stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the fuel tank transfer tube in affected vehicles to correct this concern.
