Honda Prelude Car Reviews (2)

1995 Honda Prelude, Jaybird, Nevada City, CA, April 19, 2009 13:12

260,000 miles and I still drive it daily. Best car I've ever owned. Don't buy a new car. Find a babied Prelude, not modified, adult owned. They are out there!
It has had the usual stuff done for repair and maintenence and I change the oil every 3-4000 miles. I have the VTEC.

1998 Honda Prelude, RMT, Frederick, MD, November 21, 2008 12:12

Obviously, I love my 98 Prelude SH since I bought it new and put over 200K miles on it. It's fast and handles very well.

That said, I've experience the majority of the "common problems" listed by RepairPal... could be because I've had the car for over a decade though.

Honda Prelude Problems

Brakes
  • The front disc brake rotors can warp and cause a vibration when braking. The rotors will need to be machined or in cases where they have worn out, replaced to correct this issue.
  • Excessive clearance between the caliper bracket and caliper slide pins can cause a rattle. Replacing the guide pins is needed for this repair.
Engine A front bearing failure in the alternator can cause a whining type noise in the engine area. Replacing the faulty bearing or the alternator will repair the problem.
Exhaust & Emissions
  • On certain models the primary heated Oxygen sensor heater can fail and cause the Check Engine light (MIL) to illuminate. Replacing the Oxygen Sensor is will fix this problem.
  • On some models an overly sensitive transmission control module (TCM) along with contaminated transmission fluid can cause the Check Engine light (MIL) to illuminate. Flushing the transmission and replacing the TCM usually repairs this issue.
Drive Train A front bearing failure in the alternator can cause a whining type noise in the engine area. Replacing the faulty bearing or the alternator will repair the problem.
Suspension & Steering On some models a jingling noise from the rear can be heard due to uninsulated damper mounts. Both rear damper mounts will need to be insulated to quiet the noise.
Electrical & Lights Corrosion on the antenna mast can cause poor reception. Replacing the antenna and any corroded parts will improve reception.
Heating & Air Conditioning
  • On certain models a faulty radiator fan motor can cause the A/C not to cool properly. Replacing the faulty motor will help the A/C cool properly.
  • On models with manual transmissions an A/C suction line can rub against a radiator support bracket and cause a leak. Replacing the line along with an updated bracket from Honda will correct the problem and prevent it from happening again.
