2000 Honda Accord Problems

Check Engine and D4 Lights Flashing

The 1998-2016 Honda Accord may develop issues with the automatic transmission.

Rough shifting may occur, and the “D4” light and check engine may begin to blink. The check engine light will also illuminate, and OBD trouble codes P0700, P0730, P0740, P0780, P1768 and/or P1768 will be stored in the computer.

If the transmission shifts roughly, the failure is very likely mechanical failure of the transmission. If the transmission performs normally, a faulty sensor, or dirty transmission fluid may be the case.

In most cases, it is necessary to use professional diagnostic equipment to provide a diagnosis, and complete the repair.

The longevity of the transmission is dependent on strict adherence to the manufacturer's recommendation for ATF replacement intervals and procedure.

Vibration When Braking Due to Rotor Problem

The front brake rotors can warp and cause a vibration when braking. The rotors will need to be machined or in cases where they are worn too thin, replaced to correct this issue.

"No Start" Due to Ignition Switch Failure

Ignition switch failure may cause the car to stall or fail to start. Honda issued a recall to replace the ignition switch. For more information on this recall please click here»

2000 Honda Accord Recalls

Honda Recalls 1997-2002 Due to Ignition Switch Interlock Failure

Honda has recalled 1997-2001 Prelude, 1999-2002 Accord, and 1999-2000 Acura TL models because the ignition switch interlock may fail. If this happens, the key will be removable before the engine is in the "Park" position, which could cause the vehicle to roll and crash. Dealers will confirm interlock function and vehicles will receive an updated interlock lever free of charge.

Honda Recalls Certain Passenger Vehicles Due to Failed Dimmer Control

Honda is recalling certain passenger vehicles because the dimmer control for the instrument panel lights could fail due to heat buildup. If this happens at night, the driver may not be able to see the instrument panel gauges, including the speedometer. Dealers will replace a multiplex control unit for the instrument panel lights.

Honda Recalls 2000 Accord and Acura TL Models Due to Air Bag Inflator Malfunction

Honda has recalled 2000 Accord and Acura TL models because the air bag inflator may malfunction. An improper weld in a component of the inflator may prevent the air bag from deploying as designed, which can increase the risk of injury. Dealers will replace the passenger air bag module.

Bought new in 1999, and now has 130K miles. I have replaced the ignition coil ($60), radiator ($240), two inside door handles ($40 ea.) and 3 sets of tires. All scheduled maintenance has been done. It needs McPherson Struts right now, but am putting it off (they are $350 to $400 installed). Frankly it has been a GREAT car. I consider it VERY low maintenance. Plan to drive it another 50K miles.
