This may be a difficult problem to locate. It sounds like there is a poor electrical connection in the circuit for the speedometer. There is a speed sensor on the transmission, the speedometer and the wiring in between them and the problem can be with any of these.

i got my accord ex 96 model enine overhauling,after tht everything was going smothly. recently we had 8 friends on a long drive on the car n suddenly there was severe gear oil leakage from the gear box chamber. now what should i do. my mechanic says to change gral bos seal or totally change the gear box.what should i do now?

I am replacing the crusie control switch, I can pull the switch out of the steering wheel a little bit but I don't know how to disconnect the electrical sockets. Is there a release catch to squeeze? if so where is it at? I tried just pulling on the two sockets but I realized there must be something locking them together, but without much slack in the wires its hard to tell.
I've heard that doing a full transmission fluid flush can cause debris to be dislodged and circulated into the torque converter thus causing potential damage to an automatic transmission, is this true? Is it better to just drain and change the fluid more frequently than to do a full flush?
A simple drain and refill should not put any pressure on particles inside the transmission. Any particles that are stuck somewhere should not come loose by draining it. Many places will disconnect the trans fluid cooler lines and drain/refill using the transmission's own oil pump. They put one line in fresh fluid and the other drains to an empty container until the fluid comes out clean. This way the transmission does not see excessive fluid pressure or more pressure than it normally would experience. "Flush" is not always a clear term in the industry so it's good to ask what they do.
Any transmission flush is better than no fluid change at all, Most transmission failures are caused by running on burnt fluid, Make sure to change the filter also.
Basically I'm just wondering how often I should replace my transmission fluid? My car has ~150,000 miles on it, and the last change was at 100,000.
The best bet is to follow the change interval described in your owner's manual. Many transmissions now use a longer-life fluid and have relatively infrequent interval recommendations. 30,000 miles used to be a good rule of thumb, and it can't hurt to change it sooner than recommended. If you haven't changed the fluid in 50,000 miles, you may well be due. Check your owner's manual or call a Honda dealership.
How do I get at the driver's side low beam headlamp to replace it?
It's not the easiest thing to do, but you can gain access either by reaching through from the engine compartment, or in some instances it's easier to get to it by going through the inner fender panel. Some dealerships have a policy that if you purchase a bulb from them they will install it at no charge. You may want to contact your local dealership to see if they offer this service for their customers.

Your owner's manual might have something about changing the battery. They key for my Civic has a small screw that is really tight and was hard to get loose. Your key may be similar. Be careful if your remote has the screw because you don't want to damage the screw using the wrong size screwdriver
Go to the parts department at the Honda dealer usually the counter man will help you change the battery.
How do I pull off the driver side door? I am hoping to find simple instructions as I need to replace the door on my own. Thanks
Removing and replacing a door is very complicated and should be done at a body shop, Call the body shops in your area and get a estimate.

The Accord has been a pleasure to own. It drives smoothly, has pretty good acceleration (I have the V6) and has been very very reliable. I did get a check engine light once which turned out to be a bad catalytic converter so that needed to be repaired. That was replaced by Honda at no charge because Honda has an extended emissions warranty. I definitely will consider buying another Honda in the future, or maybe an Acura! |

This car is exceptionally reliable. My Accord has been very inexpensive to repair and drives well. The only issues I've had are some bulbs that have gone out in the dash and a check engine light because of a bad oxygen sensor. The faulty 02 sensor is covered by an extended warranty so I don't have to pay for it. If you need an inexpensive, reliable ride, this is it! |

I love my Accord, I'm the second owner and have put over 100k miles on it without incident. I had one issue at about 60k total miles with the engine computer however it was under warranty and was replaced free of charge. Otherwise I have had no real problems with it despite being rear-ended on the freeway a few years ago the car looks and drives like new with over 140k miles (from SF to LA to Vegas to Tahoe) on it. Love it. |

Unlike the other reviews I haven't been so lucky with my Honda. Bought it used and at 47K miles my transmission had to be replaced. Due to the extention of the extended warrenty as a result of a Class Action suit, Honda had to replace it at no cost. When I reached 120K miles the replacement transmission died. I would love to say that this car is reliable but 3 transmissions before 120K miles is unsat. |

I loved my 96 accord! It was so reliable, and never required any repair, but I hear most hondas don't have many problems. I never had a problem with mine, and it never had to go into the shop except for the routine checks. |

The only trouble I have had with my Accord is with the brakes. I am not an agressive driver, but, I have to replace the brake pads much more frequently than in any other car that I have owned during my almost 47 years of driving. |
