The speedometer or other instrument panel gauge may begin to work erratically at times. Our technicians tell us that the instrument cluster must be sent to a repair facility to correct this fault. The warranty has been extended on some of these units to 7 years or 70,000 miles.

Reduced Power and Check Engine Light

The GMC Sierra 2500 HD uses a throttle position sensor (TPS) which commonly fails and causes:

This issue is related to the throttle position sensor, and can be caused by faulty wiring to the TPS, bad connection at the TPS, or a failed TPS.

To correct this issue, the wiring harness, connector, and throttle position sensor must be inspected, tested, and/or replaced. The most common cause is a faulty TPS.

Passenger Frontal Air Bag Inflator Ruptures On Deployment

The passenger frontal air bag inflator may rupture on deployment, causing metal fragments to come through the air bag and injure occupants. Dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator free of charge to resolve the concern.

Ignition Switch

The ignition switch actuator can bind causing the ignition switch to stick in the "start" position. If this were to occur the actuator can unexpectedly release, cause the ignition switch to snap back into the "Accessory" position. This would cause the engine to turn off with an associated loss of brake and steering power assist. If these conditions were to lead to a crash the airbags may not deploy as expected. Dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing as necessary to correct this concern.

Auxiliary Battery Fuse Link Melts

If too much current is drawn from the auxiliary battery, the fusible link can melt, causing risk of fire. Dealers will replace the jumper harness with one that includes a 40 amp inline fuse, and provide vehicle owners with supplemental owners manual information free of charge to resolve the problem.
