2012 Ford Mustang Recalls

Automatic Transmission Shifts To First Gear Unexpectedly

The vehicle's automatic transmission may shift unexpectedly and suddenly into first gear while driving, which can result in a loss of vehicle control, sudden slowing of the vehicle and possible transmission damage. Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module with updated software free of charge to resolve the concern.

Driver's Front Air Bag Defect

In a crash that deploys the driver's front air bag, the inflator of the air bag can rupture, causing metal debris to strike occupants. Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag inflator free of charge to correct the concern.

Reverse Gear Engagement and/or Lighting Issues

Certain vehicles may have been assembled with a transmission range sensor (TRS) that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear. If this condition exists, the transmission may not properly engage reverse gear and/or if reverse gear does engage, the "R" indicator on the dash or the backup lamps may not illuminate. These conditions increase the risk of a crash or a pedestrian being struck due to the vehicle's not signaling it is in reverse. Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission range sensor as necessary to correct this concern. The Ford recall number is 12C23.
