2002 Ford F-150 Problems

Engine -- Verified

An illuminated Check Engine Light could indicate that one or more of the ignition coils has failed due to excessive spark plug gap. To fix this problem, the ignition coils that have failed, the spark plugs, and all coil boots should be replaced.

Engine -- Verified

An oil leak may develop from the the right side head gasket.  Oil from this type of leak will commonly drip onto the starter. Our technician tell us an updated head gasket is available to correct this concern.

Engine -- Verified

There is a technical service bulletin for the V8 engines regarding a possible problem with the spark plug being ejected from the cylinder head, damaging the threads in the spark plug hole. If the vehicle is under warranty, cylinder head replacement is recommended. If the vehicle is out of warranty, Ford authorized the use of a specific thread insert to repair the head.

Exhaust & Emissions -- Verified

Intermittent rough idle may be caused by the EGR sensor sticking, causing the EGR valve to stay slightly open. The valve and sensor must be replaced together to correct this concern.

Exhaust & Emissions -- Verified

The EGR orifices in the intake manifold may plug with sludge. If the truck has high mileage, this may cause engine misfire when first accelerating because too much EGR gas is directed into the cylinders of the unplugged orifices. This makes the mixture lean, which causes a gradual stumble that increases in severity until repaired.

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Vehicles sold or currently registered in states using corrosive chemicals to de-ice the roads may have fuel tank straps that can rust prematurely and fail. If the fuel tank were to shift as a result of a broken strap, the fuel lines could separate or the fuel tank could contact the ground. In either case, a fuel leak could develop, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the fuel tank straps with straps that have increased corrosion protection. Early in the campaign, if replacement straps are not available, dealers may install a cable support under the strap as an interim repair or a steel reinforcement over the existing strap as a permanent repair. This recall is expected to begin September 12, 2011. The Ford recall number is 11S21.

2002 Ford F-150 Reviews

I LOVE MY 2002 HARLEY-DAVIDSON CREW SUPERCHARGED F-150 TRUCK. IT RUNS AND DRIVES VERY WELL. ITS VERY VERY FAST. MY SECOND BRAKE DO NOT WORK ANYMORE, SO I AM USING THE FIRST SET OF BRAKES. IT STOPS OK. IT HAS 160,000 MILES ON NOW. I BOUGHT IT LAST YEAR FOR UNDER 10,000. MINE HAS ALL BLACK INTERIOR WITH BLACK PAINT. MY HEATED SEATS SEAMS LIKE THEY ARE TOO HOT OR MAYBE THATS NORMAL SETTINGS FOR IT. I AM HAVEING SOME OTHER ISSURES WITH IT. IT IS MAKING WINDING NOISE. I THINK IT MIGHT BE THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT ON IT. THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES. MY OTHER X 2002 F150 FX4 HAS THAT SAME PROBLEM WHEN I HAD IT LAST YEAR. OTHER THAN THAT, I LOVE MY HARLEY. I AM GLAD THE FORD DEALER IS OFFERING DISCOUNTS ON THERE NEW PARTS.

I purchased my first F150 in 2012 It is a Lariat Trim, four full doors with Leather seats and all of the options available with the exception of Heated seats and sunroof. Everything works the engine is strong even though it has almost 200,000 miles. I like it so much I have added the original F series floor mats, a Tonneau Top, Bedliner, rear strip lighting and a Ford Hitch Brake light. Before the summer is over I will add the heated seats and a smart rearview mirror with GPS, rear camera, Blue Tooth and automataic dimming feature. Built Ford Tough Forever.

Good looking, dependable, low maintenance, plenty of room and a smooth ride. Overall---Excellent vehicle.

I like the feel and driveability of this vehicle. It is the first pickup I have ownwed and I have put 70K miles on it since it was new.
