When the speed is less than 10 mph and I have a passenger, there is a creak in the rear of the vehicle. As the speed picks up, the creak disappears. Without a passenger, the creak is barely noticeable.
Suspension creaks can be very hard to pinpoint. If you can hear the noise when pushing down on the rear bumper have a someone try and listen to where the noise is coming from. It could be a worn shock or bushing causing the noise.
The car is a '03 Explorer AWD on 38k.
Right after i travel through a rough/jumpy surface there is some grinding noise coming from the front, the car starts pulling to the left with a slight jerky/chugging -like behaviour. This seems to happen at any speed and the problem goes away on its own after about 1 minute. While the problem is there, the gears and revs behave completely normal.
4x4 H and L are working fine, but the same problem has happened in 4x4 H (havent tried with 4x4 L).
One of the CV shafts might be binding causing noise and the pull to the left. It may make noise until the front wheels/4wd disengages. I'm not familiar with how the 4wd engages but if the front diff has a solenoid to engage the front wheels, it's possible that is hanging up
Sounds like your left front auto locking hub dosn't disengage right away after being in 4 X 4 H, or do you have manual locking hubs?
what would cause a trans. to just all of a sudden lose reverse and start leaking fluid out the over flow tube. it was -15 degrees that day. just wondering what's going on here. thanks rich
Overheating of the transmission fluid will cause it to expand and be pushed out of the overflow tube. If the transmission was a bit overfull to start with that will worsen the problem. The loss of reverse may have caused the transmission to slip and the fluid to overheat. No mater what the outside temperature is a slipping transmission can overheat the internal fluid. The transmission fluid cooler should also be checked for proper operation.
not the fuse change them still don't work
i agree with the guy who says broken wire. happens where door opens and closes. no power getting to switch.
I usually find that a wire will break in the drivers door opening harness. Open the drivers door and at the front of the door between the hinges you will find a connector and wire harness. You can take apart the connector by removing the plastic cap on top then loosen 10mm bolt, allowing some room to work with for repairing the broken wire. I would suggest adding a short amount of wire to the broken one to make the repair easier and last long.
Ford uses plastic gear that drive the window up and down. These gears tend to wear out in time. You can replace the plastic gear alone, if you can find auto part that sale them. Another option is to buy after market window motor (make sure it has lifetime warranty).
up it sounds like its coughing and knocking and it will shut off a few times till it warms up then its fine any body can help me some one told me it might be a sensor but when we plug it in the computer nothing comes up
check fuel pressure while its cold,sounds like you are having the fuel pressure drain off overnight

Hi, make sure you have enough antifreeze. If you can feel the two hoses that goes to the heater core and you have heat on those two hoses it is something in the dash controls. If the hoses are cool the thermostat is stuck open. And make sure your rad cap is in good condition.
Check 2 things, heater control valve or your blend door actuator. Control valve part numbers are as follows.

My 1998 Ford Explorer has a light flashing on the dash, cruise control off. It won't go into cruise control.?
The light even flashes if the key is turned when the engine is not even running. It just started this week-end. Any idea what is wrong?
Chances are its the control solonoid that is failing, it will have to go on a diagnostics to find which one though, there are more than 1 for the cruise controll, so if u can live with the light on and the hardship of having to rest your foot on the throtle pedal, I should save the money if I were you.
any one know how to get a temp blend door motor out of a 04 ford explorer without tearing the dash out. I hear there is a way to sneak it out if you know how. Anyone know how?
Yeah I did mine like that too. If you take the four mounting bolts loose on the firewall that will get you some movement to where you can move the box down a little more. Just be mindful of how the square peg is located when you pull the motor out of there. It will have a square stem on there remember the location when you pull it out.
I spoke to one of our techs and he says it can be done, but it takes some time. He purchased a "T" handled ratchet wrench and it helps with the time. He did say that you have to get a little rough to get it out as its not designed to come out that way. A tech always looks for a way to short cut it, that's how they make money. Don't be bashful, get in there and get rough, it will come out. Save you from having to take the whole dash loose.

The hinges on the rear back glass window on my ford explorer suv 99 model. Is there any way to tighten the hinges or will I have to replace them?
I have an 2002 ford Explorer with 20" rims on it. The brakes on the explorer haven't been effected too bad but i would like them to be better. I was wondering if taking the rotors and calipers from an expedition and putting them on my explorer would improve the braking on my car. If not, what could i buy to help improve the braking on my car?
Expedition rotor will not work on your vehicle, it have different size lug pattern. You can up grade to different rotor but will wear it out quicker.
you can buy upgraded aftermarket rotors for it. don't waste time swapping and mixing parts from other models, not worth the little bit of savings. get vented discs and ceramic pads
most likely same thing and wouldnt get what your wanting you could buy better rotors and better brake pads any parts store

At this point I`d say this vehicle is a great truck in all kinds of weather(rain, snow and sun). the only problem I`ve had is repeat CHECK ENGINE light comes on. We bought this Ford explorer new in 1996 after looking at Nissan pathfinder and Toyota 4 Runner we decided the explorer because of the 302 V8 engine, with 182,000 miles on it, still runs strong and looks good. The engine , brakes, transmission are holding up well. |

SOME OF THE ORIGINAL THROTTLE BODIES INSTALLED ALLOWED A GAP BETWEEN THE PLATE AND BORE TO BE BUILT TOO NARROW. THIS REDUCED CLEARANCE ALLOWED THE ENGINE DEPOSITS NORMALLY PRESENT IN THE THROTTLE BODY TO CONTACT OR BRIDGE THE GAP. IF THE ENGINE DEPOSITS BRIDGED THE GAP BETWEEN THE THROTTLE PLATE AND BORE AND THEN HARDENED, ON THE INITIAL APPLICATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AFTER THE ENGINE HAS COOLED, THE OPERATOR WOULD NEED TO APPLY ADDITIONAL FORCE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO BREAK THE BRIDGE.
Consequence Summary: THIS COULD RESULT IN ENGINE SURGE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BREAKS FREE.
