A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your 1997 Dodge Viper

1997 Dodge Viper Problems

Some driveline clunk noted on acceleration and deceleration is considered normal.

A single click or pop may be heard from the rear of the vehicle when the clutch is released. Our technicians tell us the repair involves installing matched hubs and yokes to the rear axle.

A light chatter or rattle or noise from the transmission may be noted with the clutch engaged and the transmission in neutral. Updating the transmission lubricant, SAE 75W will help but not eliminate it.

Chrysler is recalling certain 1997 Dodge Dakota, Neon, and Viper; Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler; and Plymouth Neon models because the air bag may deploy without warning when the ignition switch is turned off. Unexpected air bag deployment can result in occupant injury. Dealers will replace the air bag control module.
