2007 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx RecallsPower Steering Failure
These vehicles have power steering units which may fail while driving. Loss of power steering is most noticeable while driving slowly or parking, resulting in a heavier feel at the steering wheel. Slow speed maneuvers can become difficult and potentially unsafe. Dealers will replace the affected components free of charge. This recall is an expansion of an earlier GM recall (14V-153) to cover additional vehicles.
Increased resistance in an electrical connection at the body control module (BCM) may result in voltage fluctuations in the brake pedal sensor circuit. These fluctuations can cause concerns with various systems that monitor the position of the brake pedal, any of which would increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will reprogram the brake pedal sensor to correct these concerns.
The shift cable may fracture, which can mislead the driver into thinking the transmission is in a certain gear, while actually being in another. This can cause a safety issue, as when "Park" is selected, the vehicle may not be securely in "Park". Dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket free of charge to resolve the concern.
