2001 Chevrolet Impala Problems

DexCool antifreeze forms sludge

DexCool antifreeze formed brown gel-like sludge, first observed at radiator cap. Supposed to last 100,000 miles. Lawsuit settled for cases where engine failed. Flushed system and replaced coolant. Keep air out of system by ensuring coolant reservoir always at proper level and check radiator periodically by removing cap.

oil pressure sensor

The engine light was on and the car seemed to be running fine. That is when i went in to hook it up to the diagnostic machine. We found out it was the oil pressure sensor. You do have to order the part through GM, but it is only $10.00. my husband fixed it in about 10 min.

jolting while driving

if my car is parked on a hill and i have to put it in reverse it does a really hard jolt or a kick. while im driving it does it again around 30 mph and again around 60 mph. sometimes if im at a stop light it kind of jerks as i start to take off.

Engine Oil Leaks Onto Exhaust Manifold

Engine oil can leak onto the exhaust manifold, causing a fire hazard. This concern was addressed in previous recall notifications, but improvements to the repair have been made. Dealers will make improved repairs free of charge to resolve the concern.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Concern

Excess weight on the key ring can cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position without warning, turning off the engine. This defect can also affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Dealers will provide two replacement key rings and key cover on all ignition keys to correct this concern.
