2001 Cadillac DeVille Problems

Excessive Engine Oil Consumption

Vehicles equipped with the 4.6L engine may develop excessive oil consumption. Please be advised that under optimum driving conditions, using one quart of oil every 2000 miles is acceptable. This Cadillac standard applies to vehicles with less that 50,000 miles. Our technicians tell us that if you experience excessive oil consumption it may be caused by built up on the piston rings which restricts movement, preventing them from wiping all the oil from the cylinder walls. Oil left behind is then burned during the combustion process. There is a special ring cleaning procedure which can help this situation. The GM service bulletin number is #02-06-01-009C.

Improper HVAC Temperature and/or Air Delivery Due to Failed Mode Door Actuator

One or more heater & AC (HVAC) air delivery and/or temperature mode door actuator may fail. This can result in incorrect air delivery or temperature. If this occurs, fault code(s) stored in the HVAC control module should be available to assist with diagnoses.

Engine Overheating Due to Leaking Headgasket

Overheating of the engine may cause the cylinder head to expand, severely straining the head bolts and damaging the threads in the engine block. This commonly results in a blown head gasket. Our technicians tell us the engine block threads must be repaired before the cylinder head is reinstalled.

2001 Cadillac DeVille Recalls

Ignition Lock Cylinder Concern

Excess weight on the key ring can cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position without warning, turning off the engine. This defect can also affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Dealers will install two 13mm key rings and key insert into the vehicle's ignition keys to correct this concern.

Cadillac Recalls 2000-2002 DeVilles Due to Seat Belt Retractor Lock Up Failure

Cadillac has recalled 2000-2002 DeVille vehicles because the seat belt retractors may not lock as required when in an accident. This increases the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Dealers will install a retainer kit to the safety belt pretensioners.

Cadillac Recalls 2001 DeVilles Due to a Safety Hazard with the Sunvisor Center Supports

Cadillac has recalled 2001 DeVille vehicles because the sunvisor center support does not comply with safety requirements. In the event of a collision, an abnormally high chance of injury exists if an occupant contacts the sunvisor center support. Dealers will replace the sunvisor center support.

2001 Cadillac DeVille Reviews

My Wife loves Cadillacs so I bought her a Gorgeous (so I thought) 2001 Deville with 69000 miles on it. We didn't have it 2 days when it started leaking transmission fluid and a little oil. Took it to my buddies (so I thought ) transmission shop. He had it 2 weeks and presented me with a $2578.00 Repair Bill. Basically, he rebuilt 1/2 the Transmission and found a cracked oil pan.
