2008 BMW 335i Problems

Check Engine Light and/or Lack of Power

The Check Engine Light may illuminate and/or a lack of power may be noted due to a failed high pressure fuel pump. BMW has released a service bulletin regarding this matter, the suggested repair is to replace the failed high pressure pump.

Noise and/or Vibration Due to AC System Low on Refrigerant

A droning type noise may be noted when the air conditioning system is operating. Additionally, a vibration may be felt in the steering wheel. If these issues are no longer present when the AC system is turned off, the problem may be low refrigerant charge in the system. Our technicians remind us that if the refrigerant charge is found to be low, proper leak diagnoses should be performed in addition to recharging the AC system.

Check Engine Light with Code P30FF and Rattle from Engine

Late model BMW 335i turbo engines suffer from waste gate issues which become progressively worse with normal driving and especially with harsh driving conditions.

The turbocharger uses exhaust gas to create air pressure which is then forced into the engine. When there is no demand for power, the exhaust gases are released into the exhaust through a waste gate to prevent the turbo from speeding up.

“Waste gate rattle” or “Turbo rattle” is a result of excessive movement between the waste gate and the waste gate seat. This is a progressive issue with the following symptoms:

  • Rattling at cold start
  • Rattling upon deceleration
  • Loss of power
  • Check Engine Light Illumination
  • Manufacturer Specific OBD trouble code P30FF
  • Very poor engine performance and MPG

Adjustment of the waste gate actuator can solve the issue, but the issue will return. If adjustment does not correct the issue, the turbocharger waste gate must be rebuilt with new bushings, or the turbocharger must be replaced. BMW has replaced many turbocharger assemblies under warranty to correct this issue.

2008 BMW 335i Recalls

Driver's Frontal Air Bag Inflator Ruptures And Sprays Metal Fragments

The driver's frontal air bag inflator may deploy the air bag with excessive pressure, resulting in the inflator rupturing and causing metal debris to be sprayed onto vehicle occupants. Dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag free of charge to resolve the concern.

The Battery Cable Connection at the Fuse Block May Break

The vehicle battery is connected to the fuse box via a heavy duty cable. It has been determined that the cable connection at the fuse box can degrade over time, resulting in increased electrical resistance. This increased resistance can cause the connection point to overheat and break, resulting in a loss of electrical power and causing the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the positive battery cable connector and secure it with an improved method to correct this concern.

Side Air Bag and Safety Belt Tensioner May Not Deploy

An incorrect crimp connector may have been installed on the side air bag and belt tensioner wiring. There may be insufficient contact in the wiring, creating high resistance. This condition may cause the side air bag and/or safety belt tensioner not to deploy if needed in a crash, which increases the risk of injury. Dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The recall began September 16, 2009.

Besides the airconditioning system being mediocre, My passenger seat goes off when empty. Since it is intermittant and not showing an error signal, dealer will not repair. Have to keep seatbelt locked at all times without a passenger. BUT additionally, I paid for a car with keyless entry which just recently is dying. Have to put key in to start, sometimes can't even get doors to open (or trunk...
Very fun car to drive. However early on I had to replace 2 fuel pumps on BMW's dime(BMW has since taken care of this issue). Another issue I have is with the sport trim which is aluminum. It scratches and dings very easily. I have not had any other problems and the car still makes me smile every time I drive it after 4 years. As far as the drive goes I would say it is what you'd expect from a...
Purchased new with sport package and ride is too hard. It seemed fun at first but even small bumps feel and sound rough. Rear keeps wearing tires. Replaced rear tires at 13,000 and had alignment done. Next day a friend told me my wheels looked like they were leaning in at the top, I thought he was joking but I told him it's fine I just had it aligned for $180 and 2 new tires at $1,000! Guess wh...
