1999 Acura RL Repair and Maintenance

A guide to problems, costs, maintenance and repair for your 1999 Acura RL

1999 Acura RL Problems

The Airbag (SRS) warning light may illuminate due to one or more failed sensors. Our technicians recommend complete diagnoses of any stored fault codes because these sensors can be very expensive to replace.

The Check Engine Light may illuminate due to failure of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, or restricted passages in the engine related to the EGR system.

The Acura RL experiences occasional problems with sensors in the airbag system, causing the safety restraint system (SRS) light to turn on. The sensors can be very expensive to replace. Acura may offer a discount as a gesture of good will.

1999 Acura RL Recalls

Acura is recalling certain 1996–1998 TL and 1996–1999 RL models because an automatic transmission case bolt may loosen and fall out, allowing the transmission to disengage from the differential. This may cause a loss of power to the drive wheels without warning. Also, a parked vehicle could move unexpectedly if the parking brake is not set. Dealers will install a redesigned transmission case bolt to correct this issue.

1999 Acura RL Reviews

I bought this car used with about 108,000 miles. Very good ride, very quiet and solid feeling. The brakes are amazing - don't follow this car too close if it needs to stop - wow! It has only had to have the needed services and we took a 3000 mile trip and all works great and it burns absolutly no oil or has any leaks. Not bad for a 10 year old car.
