Question: car won't turn over

 Rookie

I was driving at approximately 45 mph and the car died, it just stopped. The car tries to start but the engine doesn't turn over. I immediately made sure there was gas in the car, relaced the battery and cleaned the terminals. When I let the car sit overnight with the old battery in it, the battery was dead when I tried to start it the next morning. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Thanks!
