My car wont start if it has been ran and the engine tempature is up. The starter does not engage. Do I need a new starter or could it be something else?

It could be the Starter. Do you here a click? Does the Starter try to turn over the vehicle but it sounds like it just doesn't have the strength to do so?
If these are your symptoms, then yes, you may have a starter issue, but before you replace the Starter, try using 2 Batteries, such as being connected to another car with jumper cables. If the car still won't turn the car over and you hear a click and/or you hear the Starter trying to turn the car over, then it is a good bet that the Starter is worn out.

There is no clicking from the starter at all. I thought it might be a problem with the anti-theft device that disengages the starter until my Dad's friend said he had the same problem in his Mustang and simply replaced the starter and has never had a problem. I dont exactly trust his opinion though since he was drinking and also said I shouldn't try to fix my transmission just to drive it til it quits.
