Question: CAR WONT GO INTO PARK

Visitor, 5.4L V8, Staten Island, NY, January 13, 2011, 15:20

MY CAR WILL NOT GO INTO PARK WHEN I PARK ITS STILL IN REVERSE AND I HAVE TO LEAVE MY CAR IN GEAR AND SHUT IT DOWN WHAT DO I DO AND WHAT IS WRONG?

    maybe the emergency brake is on

    nope the car just rolls or goes into reverse will not stay .also i have to put car in nutral to start it up because of this

    I have seen two things cause this concern: 1. A broken shift cable (the outer plastic sheath) 2. The shift column lever where it attaches to the cable under the dash could be loose. I have seen the torx bolts loosen up or fall out. Either of the concerns make the shift mechanism very loose preventing the trans to be shifted into park.
