1996 Acura RL Question: Car Stalling

diddy1959, 3.5L V6, Roxboro, NC, August 20, 2010, 15:02

In the past couple of weeks my 1996 Acura RL after cranking will stall and will not start after several times of trying. If it sets for a few seconds then it will crank. Sometimes if i just get in like first thing in the mornings it does the same thing after a few times of trying it starts. I can drive it for 30 to 40 miles and it runs fine. It might not happen for several days or sometimes a week. The car does have 269000 miles and i am the second owner so i have no previous history. What could be my problem.

There are so many choices for what the problem could be, best to have the system scanned and properly diagnosed.
Do you have a Check Engine Light on? If so, then get those codes, because that will be a really big help.

Thanks for answering there are no codes and i checked the fuel filter and it was clean and no restrictions while i had the line off i turned the switch on and there was no gas comming out so does it sound like the fuel pump in the tank?

if vehicle stalls after it starts... i agree it sounds as if the fuel pump is on its way out.... also the fuel pump relay could be faulty... i have purchased a 1997 acura rl service manual for my daughters car... 1996 is somewhat similar... if you need further help... post additinal info.. another note ...besides fuel... you need a reliable spark... spark plugs and ignition coils do get weak over time...oxygen sensor also weaken.. they receive a signal from the PCM and react to lean out or enrich the fuel... when they get weak they are slow to respond.... with all the whistles.. that todays vehicles have... its harder to find cures... best bet.. for $80.00 acura can better pinpoint the condition as they use a different tool than the OBD-2 scan tool.
