I have seen a lot of idle air control (IAC)valves carbon up and fail, problem is worse when car is cold and actually may cause the car to stall and need to be restarted from cold. The valve can be disassembled and cleaned but dealers replace them! When cleaning the IAC also clean carbon from the throttle butterfly housing.
