It may not be the brakes, raise the front wheels and take your hands one on top of the wheel the other on the bottom. Move your hands in and out motion see if you get any play. If you do you may have upper or lower ball joint problems. Next place hands on front and rear side of the tire, with an assistant or wheel locked in place see if you you get play in front to back movement. If you do you may have inneror outer tie rod problems. If the play also has a grinding sound when rotating the wheel by hand, the wheel bearing may need to be replaced. If you don't feel you can diag. the problem and repair, use this imformation to be sure that your mechanic is being truthful with you. Good Luck.
