I have replaced the distributor with 2 rebuilts and a new. Have also replaced the crank sensor. 2 mechanics say it's the distributor from scanning the engine. The main 5 wire plug in on the dist. had what looked like a small amount of melting. Wired a new one in. HELP

The 1999 2.5L engine had wiring problems for the distributor in the harness where it passes over the transmission. On many occasion, it has been found that wiring to the distributor has broken internally (insulation appears good) in this area. The way to verify this is to put an ohm meter on the distributor end of the wire and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) side and check resistance while moving the harness by hand.
