Question

Hi, I have a consist problem with my car. While driving 40-80 mph I experience a sutle but noticable jerking or swaying side to side from the car. It is random (not occuring most of the time) but seems to be increased in power when drifting slower. The feeling is "lightly holding steering wheel, the car lurches side to side in very rapid (quick) movements for a very small time period (usually 1-10 secs. It subsides and is gone. This problem is random but continuing over a period of 3 months. Does not occur at low speeds. All I know is I got new tires from Costco just prior to incident. Help! thanks!

It's very questionable as to what could be causing your issue. Since there is no consistency to what happens and when, it's difficult to nail down.

My usual thoughts are wheel balancing issues - but they are never intermittent in nature. I would have all your lug nuts verified for proper torque for one thing.

Have a local technician road test with you. A good tech will be able to point you in the right direction after driving the car.

Hi, I have 99 Toyota camery and just recently I notice my car doing the same thing. I'll need an alignment for one thing, but I'm uncertain if this is the cause to the sudden jerked and swayed in the car. The biggest deal for me is safety. Have you gotten the problem fix? Help!
