2000 Mercury Mystique

Question: car cranks, but wont start

It will start once in a while, but wont start all the time . i am not getting any codes to check , fuel pump was replaced in 2003 , car acts like it isnt getting fuel , but hooked up gages & it started right up car is v-6 engine with about 58000mi on it

    Well, the best way to go about this type of problem is to check for spark and if you have really good spark, check for fuel, by spraying some carb cleaner into the engine through a vacuum line like the PCV line and see if the engine wants to start.

    i would unplug the crank sensor and see if your getting voltage at the plug then the sensor itself for resistance.if that checks out see if your getting spark by putting an old plug into a wire.no spark replace coil,no volts to sensor wire track short somewhere,bad sensor if no resistance. good luck and dont take everything in a haynes manual to heart they deal with many years of the same car and there not all the same
