I had same problem with my car mercury montego 2005, 3 weeks ago completely shut down radio began shuffling, and they did a diagnostic inspection three times, and they told me it was the alternator, so they put a new one and car start working better, but now the check engine light turn on, so i dont know what problem is..

Problem started when I turned car on and radio turned itself on and cd started shuffling - no discs. I turned off car trying to reset. Did not turn off problem. Continued for 45 seconds. Happened again when driving up hill - felt car lurch when this occurred - almost like a short circuit. Happened again in parking lot, only car seemed to "stall," however, car remained on. Last time this happened (all of these episodes occuring within one hour), car completely turned itself off. Very scary. Placed in neutral, came to stop, turned off car. Each time, car started without any difficulties. Battery one year old and checked. Not the problem. Not a clue and currently in dealership. Do not want to be taken advantage of but want problem corrected. Any input/ideas are welcome. Thank you.
