2005 Chevrolet Equinox Question: Can the wear sensor brakes be replaced? Pads look good but screeching noise!!

The pads may be sufficiently thick but it may be a brake rotor surface finish or the brake pad material quality that is causing the noise. What was your mechanics thoughts on what is causing the noise.

Honestly, not a lot. He did find a rotor dust cover was bent and scraping so he straightened it out and thought that would fix it. What I have read so far is that there is a wear sensor on vehicles that will make that horrible screeching sound to alert you there is an issue with the brakes...could it be the sensor?
