1995 Lincoln Town Car

 

Question: Can not shift out of Park------------------

 Rookie

1. Can not shift out of Park
2. Brake lights do not work
3. Horn will not work
4. Fuses for brake lights and horn check okay

Any suggestions are welcome and where is the shift solenoid located?

    If the brake lights are not working, then the shift lock will likely not work either, since they may share the same signal from the brake light switch. I would start by checking the switch.
    The horn would seem to be a different circuit, did all these stop working at the same time?

    Bret, first of all thanks for taking the time to help. I think the horn is a separate isssue, the brake lights (all three) and the shifting appeared at the same time. The owners manual helps some it describes the situation and says to change the fuse. Well the fuse was okay but I put a new one in anyway. I think it must be the parking solenoid but I do not know where it is located and have no luck in finding any schematics. If you happen to know of a web site please point me in that direction.

    I checked the brake light switch and found a broken wire. Removed the harness and replaced the wire, everything is okay!

    That is great, thanks for getting back to me about the fix. I didn't think the shift solenoid was the problem, and I'm glad it was fixed without having to replace any parts.

    there is a sensor or fuse located on your brake pedal at the very top of the arm if this has gone bad it will not allow the car to shift from park
