2005 Lexus RX330

Question: can a steering rack leak be repaired or is it a remove/ replace part/assembly?

Rookie

found a cut on the steering rack boot on the passenger side, took it to an independent lexus repair shop and they told me that the steering rack is leaking and has to be replaced.

it can be fixed by a shop that specializes in rebuilding them

Rack bellows can be replaced.... but if the rack is leaking into boot it may have failed because of the leak...Rubber being attacked by chemicals in fluid. They understandably would not be able to stand behind a repair in that case. Its a judgment call as to how much fluid is leaking.
