Check your brake light switch, that is what releases the gear shift out of park.

The solenoid down at the shifter can fail too if coffee or soft drinks spill down on top of it. You should hear a click sound down near the shift lever every time you press the brake pedal with the key in the on position, if not the brake light switch, wiring or solenoid has failed and the circuit needs to be investigated. There is a company that independent auto repair shops get their information from, this same information is available inexpensively for people that work on their own cars.. The information is year make and model specific, covering repair procedures, torque specifications, fluid capacities and specifications, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect....
