Question
I recently had the lower ball joints of my car replaced at the dealership. Subsequently, it does feel like the traction is much better (i feel the road really well now, really feel the tires gripping the road). However, it also feels a lot bumpier on uneven roads. Is this normal? I would think new ball joints would help to absorb the shock from the road better? please advise

The ball joints don't make the ride smoother, they are really more of a safety issue. It sounds like you may need new struts in the front and maybe even the rear.

thanks for your response..... struts may be what i need... i guess i just don't understand how it could feel so different a few days later, when only the ball joints have been replaced... this car has been driving me crazy the last few months

If struts were bad ride should have been bumpy before the ball joints were put in. Check your air pressure also. They should have aligned the front end after replacing the ball joints and one of the first steps would be to inflate all tires to the same pressure. If that is something you did not keep up with and the air pressure was low and they added air it will make the ride stiffer. If you would like to bring the car in we will be glad to check the air pressure and the struts for free. Joe
