Contamination of the ignition relay contacts may cause high resistance inside the relay. This can affect signals to the powertrain control module, resulting in intermittent vehicle stalling. The vehicle may not restart immediately, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the ignition relay to correct this concern. This recall is scheduled to begin during May 2005. On certain passenger vehicles the clip that secures the pushrod to the brake pedal arm pin could have been damaged during assembly, it may come off allowing the brake booster pushrod to separate from the brake pedal. This will lead to a no brakes situation when stepping on the brake pedal, leading to an accident. The dealer will install a new brake pedal push rod bushing and retaining clip and, if the clip was missing, a new brake pedal arm assembly free of charge. The GM recall # is 05038
The structural support for the liftgate latch may be inadequate and could allow the latch to separate from the liftgate in certain severe crash conditions. If the liftgate were to open in a crash, an occupant could be ejected from the vehicle. Dealers will add structural reinforcements to the liftgate in the area adjoining the latch assembly.
On 79 vehicles, a weld between the fuel tank inlet check valve and the fuel tank can fail. As a result, a fuel odor or leak could develop and/or the Check Engine Light could illuminate. Any fuel leak always increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank by serial number and replace it if it's on the list of affected fuel tanks. The owner's manual does not explain the child restraint anchor location symbols for the lower universal anchorage system. This does not meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Owners were sent supplements to the owner's manual explaining the location symbols in the vehicle. The recall began August 18, 2003. The GM recall number is 03039.
On 130 vehicles, the driver's air bag may not deploy properly if needed in a crash. Also, the inflator could rupture. This could increase the risk of injury to the driver and other passengers if pieces of the inflator strike them. Dealers will inspect and install a new driver's air bag if needed.
