Buick Rainier on 2004 Buick Rainier

my 2004 Buick Rainier reads coolant hot, but its not over heating my guages don't read overheating and my check engine light is not on what else could it be

The temperature gauge may not be "exact'; I would recommend having the gauge checked with a diagnostic tool to see if it responds to commands properly. I would also verify the temperature sending unit was reading properly at the engine.

Are you sure the overheat light is not a low coolant light? It is not unusual for the low coolant light to be on and the coolant is full. it does indicate a problem, though
