Bridgewater Car Care Inc
November 15, 2013

I was run off the road in a snow storm, and wound up in a ravine. I called Bridgewater Car Care, thinking that since they were literally 1/8th of a mile away and clearly in sight, that they would be the quickest and most cost efficient service available.

To make this concise, they showed up in about 30 minutes, and got my car out in about 20 minutes - no problem. They took the car to their property, again 1/8th mile away, and parked it behind the shop. I tried to get my insurance to allow me to complete the repairs at this shop, but they had restrictions that did not allow that flexibility. That seemed to irritate the owner (?) quite a bit. I asked if I could keep the car there until I could arrange a pick-up from the chosen repair garage. No problem; I looked at the storage rates on his price list and it was $50.00 per day.

The tow truck arrived the following afternoon, less than 24-hours after the first tow. When I went in to pay the bill, I was stunned - over $600!!! Before paying, I called the insurance company and verified that this outrageous amount would be covered, which it was. The agent told me that price gouging occurs sometimes when a garage does not get the repair work, and they mark up their services several times over. There is nothing illegal about it, but in my mind it is unscrupulous and immoral. Not only will I never use their services again, but their rip-off unfairly reinforces the negative perceptions of small
auto repair shops everywhere.

The breakdown of charges was $500 for the towing, all of which took a total of 40 minutes, and $100 for storage. When I questioned the storage fee, I was told that the $50 daily charge was per calendar day, irrespective of the fact that my car was on their EMPTY lot less than 24-hours.

I am writing this in hopes of pointing out the dishonest business practices of one garage in particular, which I feel is not representative or typical of the many small auto businesses out there. I believe strongly in supporting local business, and that they don't deserve to have their reputations tarnished because of the actions of one dishonest shop owner.

If you haven't guessed, I would never recommend this shop to anyone, and will warn off those who may ask my opinion of this rip-off establishment.
