2002 Buick Rendezvous Q&A

2002 Buick Rendezvous Question: Brake warning alarm

I have a Buick Rendevouz, the brake light and chime comes on after driving for a while, shut the car off and it clears. Start driving again and later it comes back on. Brake fluid level is good, parking brake is released, parking brake switch tested ok. While car running, removed wire from brake fluid level and jumped connection, brake alarm and chime as well as low fluid symbol comes on and goes away once wire jumper removed. Need a wiring schematic to see what else can cause this alarm to activate. When it activates the low level symbol does not appear as it did when I jumped the low level sensor connection. Does anyone know where to get a wiring schematic? ABS and Traction control has been off and on but mostly on now. The brake alarm started months after these. I removed the drivers door panel and disconnected the speaker. The chime is pulsed through the speaker. -

According to my service information, the only thing that should cause the Brake warning indicator to come on is the parking brake. As you found out, low brake fluid level has its own indicator. I would suggest you double check the parking brake release switch. The parking brake circuit goes to the Body Control Module which sends a signal to the Instrument panel to turn the light on and the radio to sound the chime., -

Thanks for your reply. I had disconnected the wire to the parking brake and had the alarm come on while I was driving also. I would think that the parking brake switch is normally open, so with the wire disconnected there must be bare spots in the wire or something wrong in the BCM. Since the alarm always clears when the car is turned off, I think that it must be in the BMC, otherwise I would think that bare wires would at some time continue to touch and keep the alarm on. When I activated the parking brake the light comes on but the chime does not. I am sure I could change out the BMC myself. Would I need to get it programmed after? Thanks again for your time. -

I would recommend the dealer to replace your BCM. There are special set-up procedures using the factory scan tool and a theft system relearn must also be done. -

disconnected left front speaker to quiet things down. Will try disconnecting battery and starting things up again.. Other than that it is not worth going to dealer to fix an 02 rendezvous brake light problem. 2002's seem to have spooky problems. Also have 'ERROR' light on speedometer mileage for about 80k miles. other than leaky intake gasket and bad rear head gasket the car runs great! -
