when almost stopped the r-r drum brake makes a "clunk" then groans . 36000 miles had no repairs.

MasterYou need to have the rear brakes inspected because on these drum style brake sometimes the return springs break and cause odd noises and you can find a shop here www.repairpal.com/directory or check prices here www.repairpal.com/estimator
