Question: Brake Noise

 Rookie

From time to time my brakes make a noise like metal on metal. I have taken the car in twice now only to be told that my brakes look like new. The noise doesn't happen all the time. Could one of the calipers be hanging up?

  Doubtful the calipers are hanging up; more likely there could be a hairline crack in the pad material (have the actual face of the pads inspected...), or there are insufficient pad shims, causing the pads to move around during braking, causing noise. Get another opinion from another shop...
