Question: Brake lights dont work & shifter won't unlock to put car in gear.

I made a random stop then when I got in my car it started up but I didn't have brake lights, and when I mashed the brakes to floor to put it in gear the shifter wouldn't unlock to put in gear. I had to press an over ride switch to be able to move my car out of the way. There are no check lights on and car runs fine. And all fusses are good.

    Sounds like you have a failure in your brake system, and it may be that your transmission is locked because of it. Hard to say.

    You are still under warranty, aren't you? Take it to the dealer--should be covered.

    Make sure your brake light switch on the brake pedal is working correctly and adjusted right. The brake light switch control the brake lights and the shift inter-lock solenoid.

    take it to the dealership and have them replace the gear shift entirely. They will give you a new set of keys, your main set and emergency set. You will have to give them the old sets back because the old gear shift will be no good when they replace that. It will cost you $300 or so to get it replaced.
