Potential Fuel Leak from Fuel Supply Line

For Models: BMW 525i, BMW 530i, BMW 545i, BMW 645Ci

A circular retention clip at the quick-release fuel line coupling was inadvertently not installed. In the event of a severe frontal crash, the quick release coupling could separate, causing fuel leakage. Any fuel leak always increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will install a retention clip at the quick-release coupling on the fuel supply line. The recall began on July 5, 2004.

Airbags May Not Deploy as Expected

IN SOME CASES, THE STRUT PLATE COULD BEGIN TO CRACK, AND EVENTUALLY IT COULD BREAK. IF THIS OCCURRED, THE PLATE COULD CONTACT THE TIRE.

The Engine May Stall Due to Fuel Pump Vapor Lock

In certain environmental conditions, the fuel pump may vapor lock, causing the engine to stall. If this were to happen while moving, the driver would not be able to maintain speed or accelerate, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a resistor in the electrical line powering the fuel pump in order to prevent an occurrence of vapor lock. The recall began May 11, 2004.

Certain Driveline Bolts May Not Be Tingtened to Specfication

On certain vehicles, the bolts that secure the front differential, right output housing flange at the engine, and the right-hand engine support, may have been insufficiently tightened during vehicle assembly. With prolonged driving, these bolts could become loose and cause damage to the engine and transmission housings. The right output shaft could become disconnected, affecting the ability to control the vehicle, which could result in a crash. Dealers will inspect and retighten the affected drivetrain fasteners. The recall began on November 28, 2003.

Engine Oil Filter Drain Plug May Not Be Tight

The engine oil filter drain plug may not be tightened to specification. This could lead to loosening of the drain plug, causing an initial spray of oil and then a leak. An Original Equipment Front Tire May Have Hidden Damage
