On 40 vehicles, the nuts securing the front control arm and tension strut to the wheel hub were not tightened to specification and could loosen over time. If the nuts loosen, vehicle handling and control could be compromised, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will tighten the front control arm and tension strut nuts to the correct specifications. The recall began June 28, 2006.
Certain passenger vehicles may have been built with incorrectly manufactured transmission guide plate part. This may cause the parking lock system to not activate when the transmission is placed in park. If the vehicle is parked on an incline and the parking brake is not engaged the vehicle may roll away causing an accident. The dealer will repair and replace the automatic transmission guide plate free of charge. The campaign # is 05V504000
On certain sport utility vehicles, the left front brake line bracket was not welded properly and may come loose resulting in brake line rubbing and possibly bursting. This will result in the loss of braking and could lead to an accident. Dealer will re-attach the brake line support bracket free of charge. The BMW campaign # is 05V367000
Excessive wear may develop on the side bolsters of the seat backrest. As a result, the seat heater mat located in this area may be damaged. If such damage were to occur, with the system turned on, the occupant may feel excessive heat from the area. The heating element may damage or melt a small hole in this damaged area of the seat cover. If this happened, it could lead to the seat occupant being burned. Dealers will modify the seat heating circuit to correct this concern. This recall is expected to begin during December of 2004.
The software for the driver's seat occupant detection system (ODS) may not be able to reliably determine if the driver's seat is occupied. As a result, the supplemental restraint system may not function as expected. Increasing the risk of injury to a seat occupant. Dealers will reprogram the software for the driver's seat occupant detection system to correct the concern. This recall began on October 13, 2004.
An in-tank fuel line may have been attached incorrectly. Even though the fuel gauge indicates that fuel is present in the tank, the engine could stall under certain driving conditions. Stalling of the engine while driving increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the in-tank suction jet pump fuel line and if necessary, reattach it according to specifications. This recall is scheduled to begin during September 2004.
On certain vehicles with a 3.0L engine and manual transmission, if the vehicle is moving slowly in first gear, with the accelerator pedal held in a constant position of low engine speed, with the clutch pedal held in a partially depressed position, the engine speed may increase. The vehicle could accelerate unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will reprogram the vehicle's engine management control unit to correct this concern. This recall began during September 2004.
The digital management control (EMC) unit may not have been produced according to specification. The engine may stall and not restart. As a result, a loss of power steering, and after repeated actuation of the brake pedal, a loss of brake power assist will occur. These conditions could result in a vehicle crash. Dealers will install a new (EMC) unit to correct this issue. This recall began on July 16, 2004.
A circular retention clip at the quick-release fuel line coupling was inadvertently not installed. In the event of a severe frontal crash, the quick release coupling could separate, causing fuel leakage. Any fuel leak always increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will install a retention clip at the quick-release coupling on the fuel supply line. The recall began on July 5, 2004.
On 51 vehicles, some electronic airbag system processors may not be compatible, which may cause the airbags not to deploy if they are needed in a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the air bag system processors if needed. The recall began June 11, 2004.
