BMW 550i Recalls
The fuel pump mounted inside the fuel tank may have wire contacts not sufficiently crimped. This could result in a fuel leak and vehicle stalling condition. This could increase risk of a fire hazard and crash.
The anchor present to mount child seats securely into the vehicle on the left rear seat, inboard side may have been bent downwards. This would prevent the child seat from being mounted securely.
In the event of a crash, the front passenger airbag may not deploy as expected.
One or more of the rear lamps (tail, brake, reverse, turn signal) may stop working intermittently or completely.
Vehicles equipped with an 8 or 12 cylinder engine are being recalled because the circuit board for the electric water pump can overheat. This could lead to a fire.
The bolt securing the insulated battery cable connector at the trunk floor panel can loosen, causing increased electrical resistance and overheating of the cable connection.
On vehicles equipped with an 8 or 12 cylinder turbocharged engine, the circuit board for the electric water pump may overheat. This could lead to an electrical fire under the hood.
The brake system vacuum pump can leak oil, which can contaminate the brake booster. This can result in extra braking effort.
The engine may stall in weather below freezing combined with low humidity. If the engine stalls, the driver may not be able to maintain speed or accelerate, and the power steering could fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
The lower rubber mount for the rear shock absorber may come loose from the shock. If this happens, the driver will experience impaired handling and control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
