The inflator that deploys the driver's frontal air bag in the event of an accident may rupture and spray metal fragments onto vehicle occupants. This can increase risk of serious injury or death.
Recalls on your BMW must be performed by a BMW dealership. BMW will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles in March, 2016, but repair parts will not be immediately available. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local BMW dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
In the event of a crash, the front passenger airbag may not deploy as expected.
BMW will notify owners during January 2014. However, remedy parts are not yet available. A second notification will be sent when parts become available, this is expected to occur during March 2014. If you don't receive notification and you feel you should, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call.
A problem with the air bag wiring may cause the side air bag and/or safety belt tensioner not to deploy if needed in a crash. If these do not deploy to protect the occupant in a crash, the risk of injury is increased.
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; the side air bag and seat belt tensioner may not deploy as designed. Please contact your BMW dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
