BMW 128i Recall 10V254000
Sound Insulation Around Seat Belt Buckles Could Ignite in a Collision
The seat belt buckles in your car have a small explosive device within them. In a collision, an explosion occurs at each front buckle, which causes the buckle to pull at the seat belt in order to secure the passenger from injury. Near your seat belt buckles is some sound insulation. This insulation could ignite on fire if the pretensioner activates.
We at RepairPal have designated this a medium priority recall. Please contact your BMW dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The seat belt pretensioner explosion that occurs during a collision may ignite the sound insulation around the buckles. Dealers will modify the sound insulation on all vehicles, and relplace the seat belt on some models. This recall began on August 23, 2010.
