Particularly if the car has higher mileage, as the valve guides or valve guide seals wear oil that has gathered around the top of the engine seaps down over night and on first start up causes burned oil smoke to be emitted from the tail pipe. As long as it quickly clears up and doesn't foul the spark plug causing a misfire, keep an eye on the oil level and keep your engine oil changed frequently.

Engine vent valve on the rear of the intake manifold. Very common failure, Have a tech check this. BMW dealer has a tool to check it.
