Mine made a tick, tick, tick, sound when it was cold. Repair is time consuming. Actuator is on the extreme right side of the instrument panel. Above and right of the blower motor. I took off the Instrument panel top pad and removed the passenger side air bag to access it from both the top and from below. It may be possible to do from just below without taking apart I.P. but it would be extremely difficult . It is held in place by two hex head screws and there is not much clearance. Use a 1/4" drive socket wrench to remove two screws. There is a third hole in the actuator that fits onto a locator peg. You remove the screws and pull it (toward the right side of the car) off the blend door pivot. The other problem typical to this vintage Cavalier is the cable that actuates the air door to the windshield defroster. It is a mechanical link between the selector knob and up to the left central top of the instrument panel. The selector knob controls the push/pull cable and also the electrically actuated belnd door actuator.
