Big O Tires Costa Mesa
Big-O on 17th Street in Costa Mesa installed new front disc brake pads and machined the rotors. Six months later my dashboard brake light went on, and I took my car to the same Big-O for an inspection. I was told that the rear brake cylinders were leaking and needed to be replaced. When I picked up the car I noticed a clanking sound when I applied the brakes. So I took the car back to Big-O. They kept the car for a day, but couldn't figure out the cause of the clanking. When I picked up the car, in addition to the clanking sound, the front end was vibrating so severely when the brakes were applied that I was afraid to drive the car. I then took the car to Chevy dealership. The clanking sound was the anti-lock braking system being activated by a damaged tone ring on one of the front axles. The vibration was caused by damaged rotors and bad front brake pads that Big-O had replaced seven months (6000 miles) earlier. The cost of replacing the damaged front axle, replacing the bad rotors and replacing the bad front brake pads was over $1000. Perhaps all of the front-end damage that occurred while my car was in the possession of Big-O, for rear brake cylinder replacement was coincidental. If you believe that, then by all means take your car to Big-O on 17th Street in Costa Mesa for service. One final thing, to add insult to injury, I subsequently called several other Big-O centers in Costa Mesa and was quoted half the price that I was charged by Big-O on 17th Street to replace the rear brake cylinders.
