I've had the fuel filter changed but the car continues to act real sluggish. I acelerate and then it plays catch-up like all of a sudden it gets the gas. Then the air conditoner goes off and then comes back on. I also hear squeaking on the passenger side. Would a loose belt on the alternator do this? Thank you for any info.

This sounds like much more going on than a loose belt. It may be an issue with the fuel supply, transmission, ignition system...who knows. These problems can be difficult to diagnose, and impossible without seeing the vehicle. Have a shop check it out
