Two nights ago when I started my car, the dashboard began making beeping noises like a warning sound. It sounds similar to a truck backing up, although maybe a little higher pitched. The noise stopped and I drove it OK. Then it happened again two more times, always when I'm starting the car. I'm afraid to drive it, thinking I'm making something worse that needs immediate repair. I know I need to take it to a garage, but any help would be appreciated very much!

1994 Ford Escort Question: beeping noise when I start the car

Do you have an aftermarket alarm or any other device added to the vehicle. I ask this because most Ford vehicles use annoying buzzers that are constant and do not beep. Try turning the key to the on position without starting the car and see if you have any abnormal warning light operation. Some vehicles have the door ajar light or the dome lights stay on, the you may have a door latch or adjustment problem. Easiest thing is to go through your owners manual and see if there is a description of what you are hearing, then you can determine what system is affected. This will determine whether you need to be afraid to drive it or not. Good luck.
